Everything You Need to Know About Your Trip to Africa
​​1. How safe am I travelling to Africa?
Our teams have been travelling to Uganda since 2011 without any incidents. You’ll be met at the airport, assigned a dedicated Host/Driver/Guide, and have 24-hour security at your accommodations. Your safety is our priority, but travel insurance covering volunteering is essential.

2. Do I have to belong to a choir to participate?
No, you can join as an individual singer, or if you prefer not to sing, we have plenty of other activities to keep everyone involved.

3. How much will the tour cost, and how do I pay?

4. How much deposit do I need to confirm my spot?
A non-refundable AUD$500 deposit is required once you’re accepted on the tour.
5. Can my partner/family join the tour?
Yes, they’re welcome to join as either singers or helpers.

6. Can I extend my trip beyond the organized tour dates?
Absolutely! Just make sure you’re in Uganda for our scheduled dates.

7. How much do I need to fundraise for the projects?
The minimum fundraising goal is AUD$1000, but the more you raise, the more impact we can make! All funds raised go directly to the projects.

8. What songs will we be singing in Uganda?
We’ll sing two songs, and you’ll receive learning tracks three months before departure. We’ll refine the performance together once in Uganda.

9. Do I need to be a good singer?
As long as you can learn a simple song, you’re welcome to join the choir!
​
10. I don't sing—can I still join the tour?
Absolutely! There are plenty of non-singing roles available.
​
11. Do I need vaccinations to travel to Uganda?
Yes, some are compulsory. Please check with your doctor.

12. What’s the weather like?
Uganda has a tropical climate with little temperature variation. Expect warm days (24°C to 28°C) and mild nights (16°C to 18°C), with wet and dry seasons.

13. Do I need travel insurance?
Yes, travel insurance is compulsory.
​
14. Is there mobile phone coverage in Uganda?
Yes, if you’re on international roaming. Limited Wi-Fi is also available at our accommodations.

15. Do I need a visa to enter Uganda?
Yes, you’ll need to purchase an E Visa online before departure (approx. US$100). Your passport should be valid for at least three months beyond your entry date.

16. Can I exchange money in Uganda?
Yes, you’ll need clean, crisp AUD or US dollars. Stick to 50 or 100 dollar bills for better exchange rates.

17. Where will I stay, and what about food?
You’ll stay in basic twin rooms (singles available at extra cost), with breakfast and dinner provided. Past travelers have found plenty of gluten-free options.

18. What can I expect on tour?
A life-changing experience filled with meaningful work, cultural immersion, and personal growth.

19. What should I bring?
Once registered, you will receive our Team Handbook with all necessary information.
​
20. How do I know my fundraising will support the projects?
KwaYa is a registered charity, legally bound to use funds for their intended projects.

21. What if I can't meet my fundraising target?
Meeting the AUD$1000 fundraising goal is a condition of participation.

22. Can I bring gifts for the African Children’s Choir?
Yes, please check with Marsha for our WISH LIST.

23. Do I need to be religious to join the tour?
No, but you’ll be required to respect the religious beliefs of the African Children’s Choir and may attend church services.

24. Can I take photos and videos?

25. Do I need a Blue Card or police clearance to work with children?
Yes, you’ll need a police clearance or a Blue Card/WWC Card.

26. Do I have to sign any waivers or agreements?

27. What if I change my mind and want to cancel my trip?
You’ll forfeit your AUD$500 deposit. Please make sure you have insurance as there are no refunds.

28. What’s the age range for your tours?
We welcome travellers aged 18 to 85. Children aged 12-17 can join if accompanied by an adult.

29. How do I know I have a place on the tour?
Once registered, you’ll receive confirmation within three business days.
​
30. Does submitting an Expression of Interest guarantee me a place?
