UBUNTU Africa Masterclass
Hands-on, inspiring masterclasses, led by the internationally renowned UBUNTU Africa.
Designed to take a song from first note to performance-ready.

What to expect from a Masterclass
A focused, collaborative process designed to take a song to performance standard.
Who it's for
UBUNTU Africa masterclasses are designed for established choirs who rehearse regularly and already have a shared repertoire.
They are ideal for:
• School choirs
• Community choirs
• Church choirs
• University and youth ensembles
Masterclasses suit choirs who enjoy working towards a performance outcome and are keen to add a new African song to their repertoire. Choirs may participate individually, or multiple choirs can come together to learn the same song.
What you'll work on
Choirs work on a specially selected African song that is introduced in advance and rehearsed during regular choir practice.
When UBUNTU Africa arrives, we refine the song to performance standard, focusing on accurate pronunciation, musical detail, confidence and simple choreography.
Attention is given to rhythm, harmony and expression, helping the choir feel secure and unified in the performance.
The goal is a polished piece that the choir can confidently perform on stage and retain as part of their ongoing repertoire.
How the session runs
Masterclasses are delivered in a focused, supportive environment that values collaboration, encouragement and momentum.
The session is highly interactive, with singers actively engaged throughout rather than observing or listening passively.
UBUNTU Africa works alongside the choir, responding to the group in real time and adjusting the session to suit their strengths and needs.
There is a strong sense of shared energy and mutual respect, creating a space where
Group and size format
Masterclasses are designed for existing choirs and ensemble-based groups.
Each session is structured to suit the size, age group and setting of the participating choir, whether school-based, community, church or tertiary.
While masterclasses are often delivered with one choir at a time, there is flexibility for combined choirs to participate together where appropriate.
Sessions are one hour in length and planned to fit smoothly within school days, rehearsal schedules or event programs.
Preparing for your Masterclass
Ahead of the masterclass, participating choirs are introduced to a specially selected African song several weeks in advance.
The song is rehearsed during regular choir practice, allowing singers to become familiar with the melody, structure and lyrics before UBUNTU arrives.
This preparation ensures that the masterclass time is used to refine, deepen and elevate the piece rather than introduce it for the first time.
What we need from you
Masterclasses are designed to fit smoothly into existing rehearsal or school schedules and require minimal setup.
Hosts typically provide:

Our team will confirm all practical details in advance to ensure the session runs smoothly.

Greater confidence in rhythm, pronunciation and expression
