KwaYa Leadership
Fellowship

Growing leaders through service, care, and community.
What is the KwaYa Leadership Fellowship?

The KwaYa Leadership Fellowship supports young African adults who are already serving their communities and want to grow their skills, confidence, and responsibility.

The Fellowship provides practical training, mentoring, and a period of study in Australia. Fellows then return home better prepared to care for others, support families, and strengthen their local communities in practical ways.

Leadership in this program is not about status or titles. It is about service, reliability, and using skills to make everyday life better for others.

Each Fellowship is a partnership: the Fellow commits to responsibility and growth, KwaYa provides guidance and accountability, and sponsors make it possible.

A practical bridge between service and opportunity

Selected Fellows receive:

  • Vocational training in Australia

  • Mentoring and support through KwaYa

  • Cultural exchange and personal growth

  • Clear pathways to apply skills in their communities on return

KwaYa’s Role

  •  KwaYa looks after the Fellowship and the people in it, from start to finish.

  • We carefully select Fellows and support them while they are in Australia.

  • This includes mentoring, pastoral care, and help with accommodation and day-to-day needs.

  • We also support respectful relationships between Fellows and donors.

  • All funds are managed responsibly, with transparency and clear reporting on impact.

Why Become a Sponsor?

Becoming a sponsor is about welcoming a Fellow into your life and often into your family.

KwaYa sponsors do not just support training. They build real relationships with the young people they walk alongside, sharing meals, stories, laughter, and time together.

Many sponsors already know their Fellow before the Fellowship begins, having met them through tours, visits, or time spent together in community. The Fellowship deepens that bond.

Sponsors value:

  • A genuine, personal relationship with their Fellow

  • Spending quality time together in Australia or Africa

  • Sharing everyday moments such as coffee, meals, conversation, and celebration

  • Walking alongside someone as they grow in confidence and responsibility

  • Knowing their support helps a Fellow return home better equipped to serve

For many sponsors, a Fellow becomes like a son, daughter, or extended family member.

Sponsor Engagement Promise

At KwaYa, sponsorship is built on relationship, trust, and care.

We recognise that strong, healthy connections between Fellows and sponsors are at the heart of this program. These relationships are nurtured naturally, with warmth, respect, and clear support from the KwaYa team.

Sponsors can expect:

  • Regular communication, updates, and shared stories

  • Time spent together when Fellows are in Australia, including visits, meals, and community events

  • Opportunities to connect with Fellows in Africa during visits or tours

  • Ongoing guidance from KwaYa to support healthy and respectful relationships

  • A sense of shared journey as the Fellow grows and gives back to their community

KwaYa remains closely involved to ensure every relationship is supportive, appropriate, and grounded in care for the Fellow’s wellbeing.
