Africa comes to Oz

Every two years, fourteen African Children's Choir high school graduates (UBUNTU AFRICA) hit the stages in cities and towns up the eastern coast of Australia to raise funds for the education of needy kids in Uganda. After the three-month tour students return to Africa to commence their university studies.
Discussions are currently taking place for a possible tour in April 2025

WHY?

To afford Australian primary schools and regional and metropolitan community choirs in Victoria, N.S.W. and south-eastern Queensland the opportunity to experience unprecedented performance opportunities, masterclasses, and cultural exchange workshops with one of the most celebrated indigenous choirs in the world.

To spread the message of joy and hope for Africa's children.

To raise funds for the construction of new buildings affording quality facilities for students in Africa.

To sign new sponsors ensuring the long-term education of even more vulnerable children in Africa.

To expand the horizons of the members of UBUNTU Africa as they prepare to enter university.

WHO?
-
Fourteen members of The African Children’s Choir (UBUNTU Africa) who have just graduated high school and are waiting to be accepted into their chosen university. They tour Australia for three months to conduct masterclasses and workshops and perform concerts. The African Children’s Choir has sung for the Queen, graced the stages of Carnegie Hall and the London Palladium, and performed for US Presidents and Nobel Prize winners with celebrities such as Will Smith, Bob Geldorf, Alicia Keys and Annie Lennox.

HOW?

Australian schools and community choirs of Australia host UBUNTU Africa in cultural concerts and workshops to raise funds for The African Children’s Choir projects in Africa.

The tour consists of 28 concerts, 17 workshops, 13 masterclasses in metropolitan and regional areas of Australia.

After working together on several musical pieces, Australian school/community choir participants perform on stage with UBUNTU Africa.

Masterclasses are conducted with local choirs where an African song and choreography is taught to performance standard.

Workshops where the cultures of Africa and Australia are shared at local schools and communities.

UBUNTU Africa members are offered opportunities by local businesses to “job shadow” for a day.

Host billeting families in each area share cultures whilst enjoy getting to know the members of UBUNTU Africa when they stay in their homes.

WHERE?
The tour commences in Mornington Peninsula, Victoria and ends 1,612 kilometres and three months later in Maleny, Queensland.
